One of the saddest stories in the Bible (if not the saddest story), has to be concerning the betrayal of Jesus by Judas. In John chapter 13:18-30, Judas had just had his feet washed by Jesus, and he was reclining at the table getting ready to eat the evening meal with Him. To all of the other disciples, Judas appeared to be just like one of them. However, deep in Judas’ heart something terrible was happening. In John 13:1-17, Jesus did something unthinkable in His Culture. He removed his outer clothes, wrapped a towel around Himself, filled a bowl with water and began to wash the feet of his disciples. This duty was reserved for servants or children, and yet here was the Son of God performing this menial task.
