Have you ever been physically close to someone whose personal hygiene may have been somewhat neglected, and they seemingly had no idea how offensive it was for those around them? In the Gospel of John, as the religious rulers were plotting to have Jesus killed, they were very concerned about remaining “ceremonially clean” for the Passover. Little did they know just how filthy they actually were, and how offensive their hearts (and actions) were to God.
